Kilcommon/Rearcross FC U-14's 3 - Nenagh Cetlic 2

Kilcommon/Rearcross U-14’s pulled out all the stops to record a narrow 3-2 win over Nenagh Celtic in this exciting league game played in Rearcross on Saturday. The hosts made a bright start and enjoyed the better of the early exchanges but had to wait until the nineteenth minute when Cillian Kennedy broke on the left before sending a low effort whizzing to the far corner of the net. Rearcross continued to apply the pressure but Nathan Griffin came to rescue with a good save six minutes before the break. A defensive quartet of Tadgh McCormack, Colm Lenihan, Ailín Rochford and Ellie Kennedy were superb in the opening half to keep Celtic at bay. The Neil Ryan Joinery sponsored side took a two nil lead to the break when Cormac Sheehy picked out Cillian Kennedy on the left who sent his second left footer to the back of the net on the stroke of half time. Nenagh Celtic were fast out of the traps in the second half and the visitors came close with a Brian McEvoy effort. Kilcommon/Rearcross keeper Ryan Moser went on to produce a thrilling second half performance and made a fine save ten minutes in to the half. Ryan Moser was in the action again three minutes later with another fine block. Nenagh Celtic stayed on the offensive and were back in the tie midway through the half after Jamie Donnellan converted from the spot. Colm Lenihan came close with a headed effort from a corner kick minutes later and then good defending from Colm Lenihan and Ellie Kennedy thwarted a scoring chance for the away team. Kilcommon/Rearcross stretched their lead eight minutes from time when Andy Kinnane broke on the left to finish the ball between the posts from close range. Ryan Moser was very much in the action after this with a string of saves but little could be done when Brian McEvoy brought it back to minimum with three minutes remaining in the game. The woodwork denied the Slieve Felim side in the final minute when Eoin Sheldon was bundled off the ball on the edge of the box before Cillian Kennedy’s free kick clipped the crossbar. Ryan Moser was in the action again in the dying moments but Kilcommon/Rearcross held out for a deserved win on the day and their first win of the campaign.
